โค๏ธ Toby Keith And Tricia Built A Loving Home For Families Fighting Cancer Long Before It Struck Their Own Family ๐Ÿก

Long before cancer forced its way into their own home, Toby Keith and his wife Tricia Lucus spent years creating a refuge for other families facing the same fear.

The weight of that mission changed forever in late 2021 when Toby was diagnosed with stomach cancer and began the grueling fight they had watched so many young patients endure.

Their work began far from stadium lights in 2006 when they founded The Toby Keith Foundation with one unwavering purpose to stand beside children battling pediatric cancer.

The cause carried a deeply personal pain sparked years earlier by the loss of a close friendโ€™s child to the disease.

They built a home so families could rest and children could simply be kids again

After eight years of fundraising and careful planning, the OK Kids Korral opened in Oklahoma City in 2014.

The facility offers completely free and comfortable housing for families who must leave home so their children can receive life saving extended treatments at nearby OU Health.

Parents find warm beds and real comfort instead of hotel bills and stiff waiting room chairs during the darkest days of their lives.

While Tobyโ€™s fame helped draw the support needed to build it, Tricia shaped its heart from the earliest blueprints.

She fought to erase every trace of a sterile medical ward and insisted on spaces filled with warmth and normal childhood joy.

Her vision brought a Route 66 themed cafeteria and an indoor movie theater and expansive outdoor playgrounds where sick children could smile and play.

She also pushed for 12 overnight suites and 4 daytime rooms designed around the psychological comfort of exhausted mothers and fathers.

The true foundation was laid in quiet undocumented moments when Toby and Tricia visited without cameras or publicists to sit with parents and share meals and offer a steady ordinary presence.

For more than two years Toby faced chemotherapy and radiation and surgery with the same resilience he had seen in the children at the Korral while Tricia remained his anchor.

When he sang Donโ€™t Let the Old Man In at the Peopleโ€™s Choice Country Awards in late 2023, the performance carried the weight of a man facing his own mortality.

He passed away in February 2024 at the age of 62 and millions mourned the country music titan while families in Oklahoma City grieved a quiet protector.

Today the foundation continues exactly as they envisioned with doors open to families arriving from across the region in search of rest and understanding.

Tricia remains fiercely dedicated to protecting that vision and keeping the environment true to the home they created together.

The stadium lights fade and the applause ends but in a peaceful hallway in Oklahoma a family rests tonight because Toby and Tricia decided to build them a home.
